Cornflower Abstract II with Bee and Grasshopper acrylic on canvas 16" x 20" x 1.5"
Cornflower Abstract II with Bee and Grasshopper began with the bright stripes of pale yellow, bright yellow, white, orange, gold pink and red. The border reveals the original layer of the stripe painting. Over the stripe painting I paint a mask layer and then paint in the background details. After removing the mask, I paint more details into the different layers of the painting. The forms become windows to color. The stripes wrap around the top and bottom of the painting. The back of the painting is painted orange and glows around the painting when mounted on the wall.
The subject matter of the cornflowers are from photographs I took of the flowers my family and I planted. The flowers were frequently visited by birds insects and lizards.
