Tree of Life, Stripes acrylic on canvas 10" x 8" x .5"
Tree of Life, Stripes, depicts trees in Shoaff Park in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The process is inspired by my time in Indonesia when I studied Batik. While in Indonesia, the layered aspects of life began to filter through space, sounds and smells. When I returned the layered quality of life continued. When walking through a forest the trees reflect light, memories and ideas. Thinking about the space and the associations created, I began painting my layered paintings. Looking up at the branches of a tree, I saw the space between. As I looked at the space between, the tree branches transformed.
The work was featured at the Concordia Theological Seminary Fort Wayne's Biennial Art Exhibition, and is now featured at the Open Door Gallery Art Around Town Exhibition. The work is represented with by a photo mural on Chicago Road.
