Evergreen Abstract I
acrylic on canvas
16" x 20" x 1.5"
Evergreen Abstract I, is inspired by my time in Indonesia when I studied Batik. While in Indonesia, the layered aspects of life began to filter through space, sounds and smells. When I returned the layered quality of life continued. When walking through a forest the trees reflect light, memories and ideas. Thinking about the space and the associations created, I began painting my layered paintings. The forms take their shapes from the evergreen trees around my neighborhood. The paint is applied both with a brush and knife. Some areas the colors blend together and in others the colors are cut and scraped across the canvas.
