Plane Tree Abstract, is inspired by my time in Indonesia when I studied Batik. While in Indonesia, the layered aspects of life began to filter through space, sounds and smells. When I returned the layered quality of life continued. When walking through a forest the trees reflect light, memories and ideas. Thinking about the space and the associations created, I began painting my layered paintings. The tree is one that I have observed through many different seasons in San Jaun Capistrano. The layers of black, blue and white colors create gradients in reversed orders over top and bottom layers. There are washes of colors over each layer adding to the feeling of depth. Where the tones match there are areas of ambiguity that add contrast.
